Sometimes I Like to Build a Tent

It's been too long...

Update:
I have informed my job that as of Jan 26th, 2007 I will no longer be an employee. Fed up with gender specific job qualifications you ask? No. Elusive roommate and I, as of February 5th, 2007 will be embarking on what I expect to be the greatest adventure of our lives. I will be moving to Europe. "Europe is huge. Where exactly?" Well... here is the tentative schedule.
Three months of "trekking" around. Anywhere. All the places we want to go. Or none of the places we want to go. We fly over to Dusseldorf, Germany, where elusive roommate's grandma and aunt live. We get our bearings and head off to Amsterdam (enter sly smile) and Holland and anywhere that is a relatively close trainride. Last week of February we are back in Dusseldorf for the annual Carnival, which is the German version of Mardi Gras.
Then we are off... From Carnival we head over to Paris, London, only to arrive in Dublin, Ireland for March 17th. Why March 17th? Luck o' the Irish, it's St. Patrick's Day!! That was my genius idea I must add. From Dublin we proceed to explore Portugal, Spain and Italy only to arrive in Prague, Czech Republic by April 23rd. Why April 23rd? Because that is when our teaching course begins. Elusive roommate and I am going to take an accredited course for a month which teaches you how to teach English to individuals for which it is not their first language.
Now here is the scary part to me. After our month in Prague, where we go and how long we go for is entirely undecided up to this point. We could stay in Prague and teach for the summer and then go somewhere else for a semester, we're thinking Berlin or Spain. But before we begin teaching we are going to go to Greece for a few days because it is relatively close and because it's FREAKIN' Greece. No, I'm not excited or anything.
So what this all means on the homefront is that everyday has been consumed with thoughts of Europe, getting to Europe, staying in Europe, drinking in Europe, teaching in Europe, etc. I am well on my way with the denouement of this chapter of my life. I love that word, denouement. It really is the only relevant thing I remember from High School English. In basically means, "the tying up of loose ends." I am selling my car, "loaning" my dog to some friends, moving out of our amazing score of an apartment, quitting my job, etc.
If you have any advice of where to go, where to stay, what to do, hints, techniques, or anything having to do with any European destination please comment as I would love to hear it. Oh, and I will continue to blog as I would hate to disappoint my endearing fans and since elusive roommate will be bringing her lap top. Ciao Bella! See, I'm already learning...

Wow.
Speechless.
Jealous.
Jealous and Speechless.
Speechless and Jealous.
Will have to think about this one, but if you are going to do it; this is the time in your life to go.
More to come...

I lived in Greece for 10 years.

Skip Mykonos, go to Santorini.

Assuming, of course, it's beach season.

To answer your question ca111a, Elusive roommate and I are taking the course because in order to work in a foreign country one must obtain a work permit. These permits, I have been told, are difficult to acquire. So taking a course which would solve the "work permit" dilemma seemed like a reasonable solution to this problem. Then, even in the future, I will have an outlet to go travel and live somewhere, and work, given that there is a position to teach provided at a school.
That is how this whole idea got started back in March. From there, the need to "trek" surfaced, as I have ALWAYS wanted to see ALL of Europe. We gave ourselves the three months as to not be rushed from country to county. And we have limited structure to our destinations in order to leave room to choose where we stay and for how long. We love somewhere, we stay there longer. Not so crazy about somewhere, we live. Makes sense right?

How is it I haven't come accross your blogs until now, when you're leaving? Is it too late to pitch in? First I have to say, your posts generally blow me. Away.
Yew shurekin rite. Yew kaint spell shit - I mean worth a shit, not S-H-I-T - but yew kin write. Amazing sense of humor and all. Amazing ability to balance your sentences on the head of a pin, and then hit us with a low punch. And an occasional high punch. I love it.
Now I would like to dispel some misconceptions that will hurt you, unless checked. Stop rationalizing, just accept it. Guys don't approach you not because they're scared of your height, intelligence, or sharp tongue, but because you're ugly. Stupid guys, that is. But I have seen your hairy wrists, and I thank you. Stay with me here, I'm only trying to help.
About Prague, you will love it, and it will probably love you right back. My favorite place in Europe. From there, go to Tuscany. My favorite place in Europe. Forget the rest. It's a shame your sharp wit will be wasted on people saying, "Pleez repeet". They talk like you're spelling, down there. Or maybe that's exactly why you will all communicate on a level totally unaccesible to the rest of us. The classes you're taking, do they teach spelling? But enough about the damn spelling.
And, oh - be prepared to fall in love. Really. And forget what they told you - "there are no rules in love". Actually, there is just one atavistic rule, written in our DNA, that "civilization" didn't erase yet: "Men are hunters, women are trappers". It may be fun to change roles sometimes, but your brave heart is crying for the fundamentals. The game is no fun without THE RULE. Be a trapper, use your wiles and snares on us, and we will rise. To the occasion. And fun & frolicking shall be had by all. Many of us love hairy chicks.
